Time for Tea.....Halloween at the Royal Lancaster Hotel

Today we are sharing a very special Halloween afternoon tea with you, as we've been lucky enough to enjoy the Black and White We Always Scare afternoon tea at the Royal Lancaster Hotel. Yes we know it's a little early for Halloween....but we couldn't wait to try this spooky creation from Chef Ben Purton.

We indulged in a truly spook-tacular experience with this Halloween Afternoon Tea, inspired by 1960s classic horror movies. To get guests in the mood, the lounge has been styled with spooky props and there are black and white movies playing on a screen. 

Once we'd picked our teas (Darjeeling for Rachel and a decaffeinated Ceylon for Lorna), the savouries and sweets were served on clear plate. We were impressed that there were so many different items all with the black and white colour theme....

The savouries included:

Smoked halibut, white cream cheese & black caviar on pumpernickle
Axe carved bresaola beef, horseradish, charcoal shell
Massacred egg, curried mayonnaise
Cucumber, cracked black pepper & tapenade in white coffins
Sushi roll, blackened seaweed and crab
Mini Scotch egg, black crust

The bread used in the sandwiches was fresh and crustless and the fillings were all very unusual.

We both loved the curried egg mayonnaise sandwich which had a great flavour, but the stand out savoury item was that miniature black scotch egg (we might have had more than one of these!).

Before we tucked into the sweet treats, the scones were brought out to us, these were served warm with clotted cream and jam. There was one coconut scone and one dark chocolate scone - in keeping with the black and white theme!

The scones were a good size and looked appealing despite the unusual colours....

Both scones were a great texture, they cut in half easily and were not claggy at all. We were surprised at how well the flavours came through in the scones, the coconut one was a little more delicate but you could definitely taste both flavours. The flavours also went really well with the cream and jam

Our favourite one was the dark chocolate scone. 

Finally we made our way to those sweet treats...

The sweets included a great selection of different flavours - Cursed Blackbird Macaroon (which was flavoured with orange and white chocolate); Psycho chocolate Lollipops; Black Sunday Battenberg cake; Night of the Living Tart; and a black forest mousse cake. Something for everyone there!

Each sweet treat was a good size - not too big and not too small - and everything was fresh and tasty. 

The rich chocolate lollypop was amazing, as was the black forest pudding (which was gobbled down in two bites!).

All in all this was a tea-riffic afternoon tea - with an elegant, grown up Halloween theme.

All the staff at the Royal Lancaster are friendly and attentive and we really enjoyed our afternoon at the Royal Lancaster.

Afternoon Tea News - Wimbledon themed ARTea, Lancaster London

Welcome back to Tea With Me and Friends - today we're sharing some afternoon tea news with you. With the Wimbledon Tennis Tournament just around the corner Lancaster London has come up with a tea-riffic tennis themed afternoon tea!

Game, Set and Match! Lancaster London has once again ‘smashed’ another ARTea Afternoon Tea, this time in honour of the 131st Wimbledon Tennis Championships, which take place from 3 – 16 July 2017. The iconic hotel is renowned for its innovative afternoon teas, and for the Wimbledon ARTea, available from Wednesday 28 June until Sunday 16 July 2017, the pastry team have gone all ‘OUT’!

As the professionals take to the court to warm up their first and second serves, chefs at Lancaster London will be doing the same! The first round commences with savoury bites of Lancaster London Smoked Salmon and Citrus Cream Cheese Granary Pinwheels; a Warm Tartlet of Goat’s Cheese and Red Onion; and a Sesame Seed Choux Bun filled with Confit Duck, Sun Blushed Tomato and Hoisin Sauce. 

The second round promises to be an exciting one with a tie-break between the Summer Berry and Traditional Scones, served with Homemade Strawberry Jam and Clotted Cornish Cream. 

For the grand final, a tangy Lemon Tennis Ball Tart will be landing on the grass next to a Mini ‘Murray’ Mess and a Centre Court Strawberry Macaron. Wimbledon wouldn’t be Wimbledon without a glass of Pimms, so the Tipsy Pimms Cupcake and Pink Champagne Teacake are the sure favourites to win the crowd’s favour. 

Served in the classic Park Room, which boasts beautiful views of Hyde Park, the Wimbledon ARTea Afternoon Tea is priced at £35 per person, or can be enjoyed with Champagne for £45, and Rose Champagne for £50

I don't know about you, but I think Chef Ben Purton and his team have created an amazing looking afternoon tea feast to celebrate Wimbledon. The Tipsy Pimms cupcake and Pink Champagne teacake sound very tempting!

Welcome back to Tea With Me and Friends - today we have some afternoon tea news to share with you as Lancaster London is launching their new floral afternoon tea!

As London starts to bloom with summer flowers and the annual Chelsea Flower Show amazes guests, the chefs of Lancaster London will be switching bags of flour for flowers and the butter for buttercups as they present the ‘blooming marvellous’ Flower Afternoon Tea. 

Lancaster London Blooming Afternoon Tea

A beautifully botanical arrangement of sweet delights includes:

a creamy Lavender chocolate mousse cake;

White chocolate macaroons topped with crystallised violets;

a tangy Lime and elderflower trifle with edible flowers.

The Flower Afternoon Tea features both traditional and raisin scones with classic toppings of strawberry jam and clotted cream, plus a delectably nectar-sweet orange blossom jam.

The savoury treats also have a wild theme with:
Lancaster London home-smoked salmon roses on rye bread,

Coronation chicken served on sweet cranberry bread,

a warm tartlet of English asparagus, with saffron and sun-blushed tomatoes

Sunflower seeded choux buns with wild mushroom, truffle oil and cream cheese are full of wild British woodland flavours.

The blossoming tea is served in the hotel’s Lounge Bar from 2pm until 5.30pm, Wednesday 3 May until Wednesday 31 May 2017. With Easter less than a week away we thought we'd take a peek at some of the wonderful Easter themed afternoon teas on offer this year. Welcome back to Tea With Me and Friends - we hope you're well today.

With February just around the corner, it's time to start thinking about all things heart shaped....yes Valentine's Day is nearly upon us. It's a time when pastry chef's across the country can get creative with shades of pink and red heart shaped cakes and scones and romantic sandwich fillings! Over the coming week's we'll be sharing with you some of the Valentine themed afternoon teas you could be enjoying this year.

Let's start with a Tea With Me and Friends favourite......Lancaster London, who have created the HeART Afternoon Tea:

The hotel has reinvented its much-loved ARTea Afternoon Tea to offer an exclusive Valentines edition of the tasty treats. 

Settle into the comfortable armchairs of the hotel’s Lounge Bar and enjoy a romantic afternoon. The afternoon tea will be delivered to tables sealed in a charming case with an array of sweet and savoury treats including oysters with salmon caviar, adorable heart-shaped white chocolate and strawberry macaroons, and Love You honey éclairs. 

What’s more, the hotel will be offering a surprise gift for diners to take home.

Let's celebrate Chocolate Week!

As you know.....it's currently Chocolate Week! Fuelling London’s love-affair with cocoa, a number of London venues have partnered with Divine to help chocoholics celebrate the occasion. During the week, cocoa bean connoisseurs will be able to indulge in an assortment of offerings across the capital.

Below, we have dipped into some of the capital’s sweet-toothed chocolate offerings:

Divine Chocolate ARTea at Lancaster London:

Having recently launched its hugely successful ARTea, Lancaster London will put a chocolate-y twist on the budding artists favourite with its Divine Chocolate ARTea. Inside the authentic painters box will lay an array of edible art, alongside tempting Divine chocolate treats.

State of the ‘Art’ Divine chocolate scones will be served alongside paint tubes filled with Cornish clotted cream and strawberry jam – giving you all the tools needed to devise a cocoa-creation. Lancaster London’s Divine Chocolate ARTea Afternoon Tea will be available from the hotel’s first floor Lounge Bar for £35.00 per person.

Chocolate Spa Treatment at K West:

K West Hotel & Spa has created a 'Good Enough to Eat’ Spa Treatment. The treatment will begin with a back exfoliation using a Mediterranean orange scrub, followed by a soothing sweet almond oil massage. A warm firming and hydrating chocolate mask will then be applied to the back, before moisturising it with a vanilla and cardamom oil. Available only during Chocolate Week, the limited edition K Spa treatment is priced at £90 per person, including access to the hotel’s award-winning Wet Spa facilities.

Guests will also be treated to the exclusive Chocolate Hopper Cocktail which will feature mint liqueur, white Mozart liqueur, double crème, Divine milk chocolate and dark chocolate Azteca bitters.

Afternoon tea news - ARTea Afternoon Tea from Lancaster London

Today we are excited to share with you a brand new afternoon tea launching this week! Lancaster London has devised an Afternoon “ARTea” for those who know their Monet from their Picasso, launching on Thursday 14 July 2016. 

The innovative afternoon tea, from £35, will be served to guests in The Lounge, where the work of emerging and local artists grace Lancaster London’s walls in celebration of the hotel’s affinity with London’s thriving art scene.

The eclectic ARTea menu will be edible, as will the canvasses within the afternoon tea, while waiters will serve guests in whimsical painting aprons. Dishes will be delivered to tables in painters boxes, revealing a delectable take on painting essentials. Delicate delights on offer will include: Finger sandwiches, pastries and freshly baked scones, all of which will be served on painting slates alongside jam & clotted cream concealed in 30ml paint tubes.

ARTea Afternoon Tea from Lancaster London

As someone who enjoys both afternoon tea and being creative....I can't wait to try this afternoon tea adventure!

The hotel’s current art exhibition displays distinctive scenic paintings by modernist Irish artist Norman Teeling’s. The ARTea experience, which is in collaboration with Pommery Champagne, will feature continuous reminders of his work, with menus printed alongside replicated paintings from the exhibition. Mini edible images of the art will also be printed onto the creative ARTea pastries. 

To create the unique ARTea, Lancaster London partnered with Pommery Champagne due to their constant involvement and support of art and culture – from sponsoring Frieze Art & Art 16, to hosting an all year exhibition in their cellar in Champagne, France.

The hotel also works closely with art curator Barbara Stanley, whose gallery showcases contemporary Irish artwork and sits across the street from the hotel.

Time for Tea.....Lancaster London

Welcome back to Tea With Me and Friends, last week Lorna and I were lucky enough to be invited back to the Lancaster London for a spot of afternoon tea again.

You might remember that we last visited Lancaster London in December 2014 - in fact it was our last afternoon tea of 2014! We enjoyed Chef Ben Purton's creations so much back then and we were super excited to go back again.

As with our last visit, the service was fast and friendly - with everyone who we encountered knowledgeable about the afternoon tea. Once we had picked our teas the afternoon tea stand was brought out.

Afternoon tea sandwiches - Lancaster London

The savouries included something for every taste including the following sandwiches:

Ham & English mustard 

Piquillo pepper and hummus 

Lancaster London home smoked salmon 

Free range Barradale Farm egg and wild cress 

In addition to the well made finger sandwiches there were another two savoury delights to enjoy - a warm Coronation chicken tartlet and roast English beef with horseradish cream and watercress.

The finger sandwiches were made with fresh bread and there wasn't a crust in sight! The amount of fillings matched the bread, making them very enjoyable. The in house smoked salmon was scrummy. I also really enjoyed the coronation chicken tartlet - I might have enjoyed more than one of those!

Next came the scones - we had three each, one plain, one fruit and one apple. These were served with strawberry preserve and clotted cream

The scones were a good size - not too big, not too small. But to be honest two were enough as there is plenty of other treats on this afternoon tea stand. We also weren't overly keen on the apple scone.

Finally we moved onto the sweet treats - a very pretty selection indeed! 

The treats included:

Signature chocolate & honey lolly pops

Pistachio and Amarena cherry slice

Raspberry tart with vanilla custard

Honey apple cup cake

Lemon macaroon

Afternoon tea sweet selection - Lancaster London

There were two stand out items for me - the chocolate and lolly pops were amazing.....they were so good that we might have eaten them whole! Plus the mini raspberry and custard tart - the pastry was crisp and buttery and the filling light.

I wasn't so keen on the pistachio and amarena cherry slice, the flavours weren't quite right for me, but that's just personal preference. If you love macaroons, then you'll love the lemon macaroon on this plate - it's crisp on the outside and chewy in the middle!

Afternoon tea sweets - Lancaster London

This afternoon tea costs £30 per person, or if you'd like to add a glass of bubbles it's £40 per person. We were offered refills of both tea and food throughout the afternoon tea , and could change our tea choice if we wanted. Overall this afternoon tea is great value - perfect for sharing with friends.

With Valentines Day just around the corner we thought we would share with you some of the more romantic afternoon teas that we have discovered this February. We are staring today with a look at the Valentines Afternoon Tea on offer at Lancaster London.

Guests can enjoy this romantic afternoon tea between Wednesday 10th February and Tuesday 16th February 2016, everyone will be greeted by Laurent-Perrier Rosé Champagne, a hand written menu and a beautifully laid table, scattered with rose petals.

Priced at £45 per head, the Valentine’s Afternoon Tea features romantic sweet treats including heart shaped macaroons, Champagne & chocolate opera cake, passion fruit & raspberry lollypops; and freshly baked scones with rose & strawberry jam.

Welcome back to Tea With Me and Friends as we bring you yet another fab festive afternoon tea creation. Today we are featuring the Christmas creation of Chef Ben Purton at Lancaster London. You'll remember that we visited Lancaster London around Christmas time last year and we're impressed with the friendly service and tasty afternoon tea.

Let's take a look at this year's Christmas afternoon tea....

There are both sandwiches and savouries on offer with this feast, which include.....

Sandwiches:

Lancaster London home smoked salmon,

honey & grain mustard cream cheese

Free range Farm egg & wild cress

Roast English beef & horseradish

Afternoon tea news....a spooky afternoon tea from Lancaster London!

Welcome back to Tea With Me and Friends - we are feeling a little bit spooky currently as Halloween is fast approaching and so we thought we'd feature some of the Halloween inspired afternoon teas on offer.

Let's start with the Frightful Fancies Halloween Afternoon Tea from Lancaster London.......

Priced at just £30 per person, the tea includes a host of spooky sweet treats such as Eye ball lolly pops (chocolate, raspberry and passion fruit flavour); Black macaroons with a pumpkin filling; Butternut squash tartlets; White chocolate and pistachio opera cakes; and Pumpkin cupcakes.   

Plain and raisin scones will be served warm, with home-made strawberry jam and Cornish clotted cream.

The tea also includes savoury classics with a contemporary twist such as Roast beef filled Yorkshire pudding with horseradish cream; Wild mushroom, chicken and tarragon tartlets; Lancaster London smoked salmon sandwiches; Egg & wild cress sandwiches; and Cucumber sandwiches accompanied by a selection of fresh loose leaf teas.

This spooky Afternoon Tea spread will be served in the hotel’s  first floor Lounge Bar from 2pm until 5.30pm.

Those eye balls sound delicious (a phrase you don't hear very often)!

We last visited the Lancaster London in December when we enjoyed the delights created by Chef Ben Purton.....but take a look at what's in store for future guests.....

Father’s Day Themed Afternoon Tea

What do real men want for Father’s Day? Afternoon Tea of course!

Priced at just £30 per head, this afternoon masculine tea includes ‘Dad Favourites’ such as Mini beef burgers, Leek and stilton tarts, and Honey roast ham with English mustard sandwiches, alongside classic Afternoon Tea delights such as Plain and raisin scones served warm, with homemade strawberry jam and clotted cream, and a selection of cakes and pastries and of course plenty of Tea.

Blooming Lovely Chelsea Flower Show Afternoon Tea

Lancaster London has launched a beautiful floral inspired Afternoon Tea to mark the 2015 Chelsea Flower Show.

Priced at just £30 per head, the Tea includes exquisite sweet treats including Lavender and peach tarts, Passion fruit and raspberry lollipops, and Strawberry and white chocolate opera cakes.

Delicately fragrant summer herbs have also been used to infuse the Rosemary scones and Thyme cupcakes, which are on offer alongside the usual selection of homemade scones with clotted cream and jam, and a selection of fine finger sandwiches, savoury tartlets, and of course tea.

The Chelsea Flower Show Afternoon Tea will be in bloom for a short time only, from 19-23 May 2015.
